Quick update

The doc came to check on Alan again this morning and was pleased by how he continues to improve. The swelling continues to decrease and he shows good kidney function - signs that the tumour is not pressing on things as badly as before.

The good news is that his hip bone where the ball and socket joint connects to the leg looks fine. The bone at the back of the hip sustained the damage from the tumour. We will have to wait and see how much of that bone remains before deciding what to do - perhaps a graft for reconstruction if the remaining bone isn't enough to support him until it regrows on it's own. Nobody has mentioned it yet, but I'm quite sure we'll have to do some physical therapy down the line.

Hopefully results from Houston will come in today, if only to dot all the i's and cross all the t's. Daddy and Kevin plan to visit again this afternoon. Daddy is going to bring a stroller so we can wheel Alan and his IV out to a sunny sitting area just outside the unit. He's been pretty good about it, but he has to be getting sick of this dim room. It has a nice sized window, but it's tucked in a narrow corner away from the crib. There may a whole sequence on the Sun in Baby Galileo, but it just isn't the same as the real thing.
