It's been a rough evening while Alan has been getting his first chemotherapy treatment. The drugs have been irritating him and he's so tired of being poked and prodded constantly. We haven't been able to get a BP all day because his crying and wailing throw the readings off. He tried to shake the sensor for measuring his pulse off his toe and batted away the stethoscope. Even taking a temperature has become a fight. Our nurse this evening commented on how mad he got just when he saw her enter the room.
I know we've said our boy is a fighter, but this isn't what we meant. They promise he'll get used to it over time, but I just don't see how.
...and then he went home to continue his fight against cancer. This is the story of our angel.

We're rolling
The doc had another conversation with the hospital's pathologist and examined the slides again. They are quite certain that the tumour is infantile fibrosarcoma, so even though they sent the slides to colleagues at TCH and MD Anderson for additional confirmation, the doc would like to start Alan's chemotherapy today. Alan's getting very puffy, partly because of the IV fluids but also because the position and size of the tumour is impeding circulation. The pain is also becoming harder and harder to manage. Chemotherapy will help with all that.
It will be nice to get confirmation on Monday, but we're glad to be starting his treatment today.
