06/29/10-0555Since the chemo was started late last night, today was all about playing around the room while getting IV fluids and more tests - EKG, chest x-ray and an ECG. Getting Alan set up for the EKG was fun since he kept trying to play with the contacts (which have a very gooey, gel-like adhesive), unclipping the leads as the tech was trying to connect them all and generally making a mess. We have the ECG down pat though - the trick is to make sure Alan can see the screen. He loves seeing the big gadgets!

In addition to the tests, Alan got a transfusion today - his red cells were already on the low side going into chemo and the Irinotecan pushed it over the edge. He got some Lasix before the transfusion started so his fluid levels wouldn't go too high.
We also had visitors from a local girls' softball team who came by with toys and to play with the kids. They brought Alan a bag full of bubble gear, which he loved! We all sat on the floor blowing bubbles and Alan was enjoying himself so much he didn't even make a break for the door when it was opened for us to attempt a photo with the team.

Hmmm, why don't these ones work?
