06/30/10-0515Unlike yesterday's parade of tests and treatments, today was just IV fluids and Zofran to keep the nausea at bay. Doc P was very happy with yesterday's test results and this morning's blood counts, which meant Alan was free to play with Daddy all day! They blew bubbles, shook and threw around the "toy" Daddy made out of a soda bottle, Alan tried climbing onto the sink several times and refused to nap. The freedom of the extra-long IV line and the ace bandage to keep the needle secure is a double-edged sword - Alan is much happier, but we're exhausted trying to keep up with him.

Alan has been handling the Irinotecan well. He's pretty active, happy and eating through the day. Now the Vincristine that Alan had on Monday is constipating (which is something we have been fighting for weeks) and the Irinotecan can cause diarrhea so we've been wondering which one would affect him more. So far, it looks like the Irinotecan is "winning" so last night we switched from wipes to wet cloths and we're putting on the diaper cream pretty thick (we are usually very generous with the cream during chemo anyway to protect Alan's skin). We'll be starting chemo an hour earlier today, and push it up a bit every day so by Friday we won't be doing it in the middle of the night. That makes bedtime better for Alan since the nurses won't be in and out all night long.
