Alan slept quietly and without incident through the night. There was a little concern early this morning, but it ended up being due to a loose lead that had been dislodged by his brace rather than any real problem.
Doc L came in this morning to change the dressing on his leg and was very pleased with how everything looked. The swelling on his leg was enough that she would not take him back to OR on Monday to close the incisions yet. They are adjusting the fluids, medications and supplements to help him flush out so the swelling go down and we'll revisit the issue. She will adjust his brace on Monday though, to match the angle it will be in the spica cast.
Since Alan has been resting comfortably, we expect to settle into the ICU for the foreseeable future. The docs prefer to keep him intubated and sedated under close monitoring. He's always been very stubborn resisting sedatives and anti-anxiety meds, so being able to give him enough to stay calm is better done under the supervision of the ICU. It's a little inconvenient in some practical terms for us - no food, drink, or cell phone use in Alan's room, the floor, or waiting room. We have to walk out past the elevator into one of the hallways. It's a small price to pay for the level of attention that Alan has been getting.
