After being settled into the ICU, Alan had a fitful night as the nurse tried to balance the sedation and painkillers so he was comfortable. He woke up twice, trying to move before the nurse adjusted his meds. He's resting quietly now - I can even hear his regular baby snore snores.
Doc L just came by and she was very happy with how his toes and incision looked. The PT will be here shortly to fit his brace, during which they will up his sedation since it will be quite painful. Then they will try to extubate him. Since they had to put a lot of pressue on his bowel during the surgery, the NG tube will not be removed until he passes gas - we'll be keeping ears and nose at the ready. They will change the dressings on the fasciotomy tomorrow, and are looking at taking him back into the OR on Monday to close the incisions.
Doc H-J's resident also came by to check on Alan's stents and catheter since the nurses had mentioned a leak in their notes but did not want to mess with her set-up. He was happy with how things looked and said that the labs on Alan's urine output had good results. Doc H-J will be by later after she finishes a procedure. Right now, Alan will be getting a transfusion.
Thank you so much for keeping us posted. I've been praying and thinking about you all yesterday and will continue to do so thoughout. I wish I could make it easier for you, hugs and prayers.
