Alan had a good night, sleeping comfortably and only waking when the respiration therapist came in to do his breathing treatment. Sara was happy to report that his O2 levels never went below 95, so that is one less annoying tube for him to deal with! Auntie Janet came in to sit with him this morning while Mommy had some time with Kevin.
The PICU doc came in to check on his medication levels and was quite pleased to see that not only had they found a mix to make him comfortable, they were even able to ease off on a few of them. He will continue to slowly wean Alan off the narcotics, depending on the occasional use of Propofol or a bolus of Fentanyl when they need to sedate him for dressing changes or adjusting his brace.
Alan had two very nice naps today and was happy watching his movies. After one of the naps, he was watching The Big Bang Theory with Mommy who was very happy to hear him say "Bang!" at the end of their theme song. He also grinned and giggled at the tumbling and wrestling pandas in his Ultimate Pandas DVD. It is so good to see him smile!
Hi Harold and Judy,
ReplyDeleteWhat a boy! Sounds like Alan has done very well coming off the ventilator. His oxygen saturation levels look good. A little fun breathing exercise for Alan, if it's okay with the nurses, is to let him blow bubbles. The R.T. or P.T. probably also have other fun breathing incentive devices, if necessary. We're very glad the girls spent time with Kevin this past week, and that Janet was able to visit with you and Alan today.
Our love to you all,
Selwyn and Jordan
Awesome to hear that Alan is progressing well!
