Radiation Treatment #9

Alan had another rough night, but when we went down for radiation treatment today, he had a nice surprise. The staff at Radiation Oncology had a gift bag for Alan, since we would be having his last treatment on Saturday while they were off. Among the toys and books (including super heroes and Sponge Bob), there was one of Alan's favourite bubble wands! He wanted to open it and blow right away!

As we had discussed with our floor nurse yesterday, the IV team came to change dressing on PICC line and replace the needle in his port while he was still under sedation. Our floor nurse for today came down to change the dressing on the nephrostomy tubes since that was not something the IV team could do and she was happy to report that everything looked good.

Back upstairs in his room, Alan asked for bubbles again, and kept Daddy busy blowing so he could pop! Doc H2 came on rounds with no changes. Alan's scrotum is continuing to swell, but the only thing we can do is wait and see how well the radiation treatment takes effect. Doc H2 is out of town for the weekend but one of his colleagues will be looking in on us over the weekend. On Monday, we'll start assessing how we can switch Alan to oral pain management, get the NG tube out and Alan off the TPN and eating food.

Miss Ivy gives Alan the bubble wand!

Almost done now, just one more to go!
