The cultures from Alan's lines are back (PICC, port, and nephrostomy) and all have a staph infection. Unfortunately that means he will need 10-14 days of IV antibiotics. They will continue to culture the lines to be sure it is out of the plastic then we will have a better idea of how long he has to stay. Since we are here for an extended time we asked if we could move into the room next door since there is a little more space and it has much bigger windows. Our current room is in the corner of the tower and is so tight every time someone goes in or out of the bathroom the door bangs into Alan's IV stand. We moved things next door while Alan snoozed and by the time he woke up we were wheeling him into his new digs with an awesome view of the helicopter pad next door.
Otherwise, he slept well and the swelling is definitely down. Platelets and white counts are back up so we should be seeing Doc H2 about the next chemo in the next day or two. The protein level is still a little low.
He has been doing well on the lowered morphine PCA (0.5 mg/hour) with no nursing boluses and only 10 button pushes (0.3 mg per button) yesterday so they will continue to wean the dose down (to 0.3 mg/hour). He worked hard for Denise the PT again, kicking the ball back and forth and even sitting up on the side of his bed.
Look at all this extra space and light!
