MRI number 2

Alan sleeping off the anesthesia

We had to show in Pediatric Radiology at 8:30 this morning for a 10:00 am MRI. Unfortunately, the anesthesiologist was held up with an emergency, so we waited almost 5 hours before they finally took him in to the MRI. They put him under with the gas Sevo, and he did not like the mask at all. He had already been cranky and crying for the last hour and a half. The nurses and anesthesiologist were all commenting how strong he was - he got several good kicks at one of the nurse's chest until she managed to shift over a bit. One good thing about him crying so hard, he was taking in the gas well and soon drifted off. One more kiss, and Mommy was sent off to the post-surgical waiting room.

Alan came up to the recovery room shortly after two. They gave him half an hour to sleep off the anesthesia, taking vitals, and then tried to get him to drink some clear liquids - Lemon Lime Gatorade since he hasn't wanted anything sweet since we started chemotherapy. One of the side effects of the anesthesia was irritability, and it showed. On top of that, the gas could make him, well, gassy, so he was tooting away between wails. The nurse finally let us go home, and he was happy as soon as we started heading back to the car. Little did he know that we'll be back in less than 24 hours! Oh well, let him enjoy the evening.
