Office visit 1/25

01/23 11:15
ANC 1380
Another checkup after a rough night. Alan woke up around midnight and was pretty restless the rest of the night. He's only had a couple of decent bowel movements since chemo on Thursday, and we're pretty sure that is the source of his discomfort. He didn't want to go to school so we went to the office a little early so we could get out in time for a haircut.

Alan was good at the office, raising his shirt for the nurse Jody to clean the site of the port and access. The blood return came smoothly, especially when Alan took deep breaths and shouted "Hurray!". The counts, while still in a healthy range, are definitely heading down. Doc P gave us Neupogen and will see us on Friday. We want to be sure Alan is in a good position for chemotherapy next week.
Warning: Poopy Talk Ahead

We need to get this constipation problem under control. It doesn't help that the Fentanyl will exacerbate the problem just like the Hydrocodone. Doc P told us to increase the Milk of Magnesia to 10 ml and 2.5 mg of Dulcolax this afternoon. If we don't have a very good bowel movement by tomorrow we need to call the office. The next step will be an enema.
After a haircut to minimize the impact when Alan starts losing his hair, we went home where Alan had a nice nap, once again falling asleep with the iPod clutched in both hands.
