In the home stretch

It was another unsettled night for Alan - he was up from 2 am to 6 am before falling asleep again, but ended up finally getting some rest. Doc P came by in the morning to let us know we should still be able to go home tomorrow with oral antibiotics to finish off the treatment for Alan's infection. Yay! He's been getting a little stir crazy being in this room all week.

Besides sitting on the bed with Daddy and wrestling the pillows, Alan has discovered how to open the bathroom door - uh oh! While wrestling with Mommy over who gets to control the door, he managed to snap and break part of his tubing. That's the second time he's broken the tubing during this stay. The ace bandage and tape anchoring the tubing to his PJs have helped prevent a dislodged needle, but the tubing still goes through a lot of abuse as he plays around his room. If he isn't stepping on it, the IV stand is running over it or it's being stretched or pulled around the furniture as Alan outpaces the length and our ability to move the stand to keep up with him. Still, it's a small price to pay to keep him happy and active. Last time he was confined to the crib for an extended time, we noticed his limp was worse afterward. Alan's PT said it was probably from lack of use - she gave us some exercises we could do with him in bed, but this natural play and activity level is even better.

Alan's also been trying the main door to the hallway. He almost has the height to manage that latch, but hasn't quite figured out how it works - yet. The way he's been eying it and trying has us thinking we'll need to keep a very close watch on him during the next hospital stay.

One more chemo treatment tonight, along with the antibiotics and hopefully the next entry will be from home!
