Going crazy at home!

Alan slept through the night! After briefly waking when he was weighed for vitals in the wee hours of the morning, he went back to sleep for a while longer. He really needed the rest. With the last dose of chemo for this round completed late last night, all that was left was IV antibiotics and Zofran while we waited for the docs to let us go home. Alan was getting quite the case of cabin fever - while the last dose of IV antibiotics was going in, he turned off the syringe pump (the only thing infusing anything into his port - BAD!) and turned on one of the IV pumps and somehow got it locked into a warning message. It took four nurses to figure out how to fix it.

Once again, Alan resisted napping, though he sat in the crib quietly watching Baby Einstein for a while. Doc A came after lunch and had some fun with Alan. Doc A felt Alan's tummy and was pleased to be touching gut instead of just tumor. He released us to go home where we will complete the course of antibiotics with oral medication. The pharmacist recommended giving Alan a teaspoon of chocolate syrup before giving the antibiotics - the chocolate coats the taste buds so the bitterness of the medication doesn't taste so bad. It was only partially effective, but still more successful than previous attempts to give him oral meds.

We got home in time for dinner and Alan was positively giddy with freedom. He ran around the living room in big circles, grabbing snacks from the kitchen and taking turns cuddling with Mommy, Daddy and Kevin. After a much needed and enjoyed bath time, he and Daddy ran back and forth playing "Chase Daddy" while Mommy and Kevin read a bed time story. It's so nice to be home!
