06/06 11:34Five doses of antibiotic later, Alan has been acting pretty perky and the rubbed open blister has healed over. We had to hang around for a while because we weren't able to get blood return on his line. While we let the TPA work, Doc P probed the scarred area to get a culture from the site, as well as getting a blood culture once we got the line going. Doc P went back to his operative training while probing the scarred area to trim the suture at the top end of the scar that was irritating Alan's skin. The suture had been causing a blister, breaking the skin last week while it was covered with the bandage and contributing to the infection. Usually sutures dissolve or become encased in scar tissue, but this one was too close to the surface. Doc P brought out some sterilized instruments and trimmed it - it has already done it's job.

We hung out in the seashell room and watched cartoons until we were able to get the blood flowing for the counts and culture. Between the chemo, infection and antibiotics, Alan's white counts were low. Doc P put Alan on Neupogen for today and tomorrow and we'll come back for another follow up on Wednesday.
