Post Spica Cast One Week

Alan has been out of the cast for one week and we have definitely seen improvement. It's still slow, which frustrates us to no end, but it's progress. He still cries when we move him or approach him like we want to move him, but once he's in transit or settled he's fine. The important thing is when he's sitting or moving on his own he does not act like he's in any pain. He has been wearing the hip and foot braces without complaint since Monday. He's a clever little monkey who loves to play with Velcro, so we think they must make him feel better - otherwise he'd be pulling on the straps and trying to get them off.

He has been scooting himself on his back around the floor, even faster when we figured out that a few small furniture sliders under the velco-y parts of the braces would help him move smoothly over the carpet. He's also been pushing himself up on his elbows and hands. Yay!

We picked up Alan's new stroller/wheelchair this week. It's still larger and heavier than his old strollers, but much better than the loaner we had been using since the end of December. We took it out to the park this week to meet with some friends from MOMS Club to fly some kites. We thought Alan would enjoy the fresh air, but when his little friend Marissa shared a kite with him he took to it right away! Alan was pulling on those kite strings like a pro!
