Office visit 1/27 and Final Pathology Report

Harold is here guest writing for today. We got the pathology reports when we went to see Dr. P and Dr. A this morning.

The short version is the tumor has less than 1% viability. For all intents and purposes, it is considered dead. At this point, Alan falls back to a monitoring status, with MRIs every 3 months, and an initial visit with the doc 2 weeks from now.

You would think we would be bouncing off the ceilings with joy at this news. Strangely though, we aren't quite at that stage...yet.

Because the emotional roller coaster has had such steep up and down moments, we could almost say that we're trying to avoid that steep rise, to not fall so hard if the other shoe drops and it shows up again.

Now, to be clear, they confirmed (again) the diagnosis of infantile fibrosarcoma, which again has a very high survival rate and very low recurrence rate. There is very little reason to believe that it will ever show up again. We've already started making plans for his therapies for speech and walking. Harold plans to retire on time and spend his days he gets back with the family doing family things. We plan to have a major celebration at the end of May for Harold's retirement, Kevin's birthday, and Alan being free of cancer. We are doing all the things we planned to do when we got this news. We are moving ahead with the family plans.

It might just take a while for our emotions to catch up.

There aren't enough words to convey how much all of your support and help has meant to us, physically and emotionally. We will continue to update this blog as the monitoring progresses...and someday, hope to give a closing entry.
