The morning after surgery

After finally falling asleep around 10 PM, Alan slept peacefully through most of the night. Too bad Mommy couldn't say the same thing - because he is recovering from surgery and has an epidural, he is hooked up to several monitors which kept going off all night long. Alan slept right through them all!

Once he was awake, he drank some water and juice, but wasn't interested in any more chicken soup. We had a few visitors this morning. Miss Becky came by with breakfast for Mommy and kisses for Alan. Of course she had to rub his soft fuzzy head! Child Life came by with a therapy dog, which got Alan very excited and animated. He let Mommy sit him up where he "talked" to the dog and tried to pet him. He stayed sitting up to play and snack on chocolate milk and chocolate graham crackers (chocolate crumbs everywhere!) and he blew Miss Becky a kiss goodbye!

Sitting up with his toys and a chocolate graham cracker!

Late breaking news - we just got a visit from Doc D, who was in the surgery with Doc R. He was pleased to see Alan sitting up - the more activity the better. He said we should be getting a preliminary result from the pathologist in the next few days, but a final report could take several weeks. Doc K has authorized stopping the meds through the epidural at 3:00 this afternoon and will be in later today to take the epidural out. Depending on how Alan does, they will manage his pain through IV meds or oral meds instead. Once they take the epidural out they will also remove the foley catheter, which will give Alan much more freedom.
