One week after Alan's service and celebration of life, a belated sharing to those of you unable to attend - a message in the service's program from our family, to all of you who have given us so much support and love through the last four years.
Thank you for coming today to remember a wonderful little boy who gave us so much with his energy, laughter, and plain old determination. Alan brought so many of us together, allowing us to get to know each other through his strength. He showed all of us how much it means to be able to give of ourselves and to know what is important. Alan brought out the best in all of us.
Alan's spirit was 'supernova bright'. A supernova is a very large star (which typically shines brighter with a much shorter life span) that comes to the end of its life cycle and explodes with an intensity that can exceed an entire galaxy of stars. And that explosion of light forms the building blocks for new stars and new planetary systems. The word 'nova' itself is Latin for 'new'. We think of all the friends we have made, the people we have known, and hopefully the future families we can help. The end of one life, sowing the seeds for other lives to shine.
We, his family, consider all of you to be part of his legacy. We cannot hope to ever repay what everyone has done for us. The best we can do is to pay it forward, to help others as everyone has helped us, and to remember how fortunate we are to have all of you to thank.
With love and appreciation,
Judy, Harold, and Kevin
